Unesco Director-General Irina Bokova praised yesterday the organisation’s partnership with Qatar. Speaking to Qatar News Agency, Bokova expressed her appreciation to the constant co-operation with Qatar.
Praising her meeting with HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, she said it was open for all issues related to co-operation between the State of Qatar and Unesco.
Bokova added that the meeting also dealt with ways to protect heritage in times of struggle, particularly in the Arab world.
The Unesco Director-General also highlighted the role that Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser as a Unesco Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education and Advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
She stressed that HH Sheikha Moza plays an active role around the world in those fields.
Bokova cited Qatar’s positive contribution as one of the main drivers of Unesco’s achievements in education worldwide.
She praised the Educate a Child programme, which was launched by HH Sheikha Moza, and provided education for millions of children around the world who have no access to education.
The Director-General noted that she also met with Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani and discussed the importance of investing in education at times of emergency in different areas around the world.
