Sheikh Fahad Faisal al-Thani, deputy governor of Qatar Central Bank and chairman of National Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Committee, along with the delegates at the recently held plenary sessions of the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs). The Egmont Group focuses on promoting co-operation and the exchange of information among the national units concerned with money laundering (FIUs) at the global level, with a view to develop the technical and institutional capabilities of these units in combating money laundering and terrorism financing operations. Qatar hosted the meet where Finance Minister HE Ali Sherif al-Emadi, in his inaugural address, said FIUs have a crucial role in achieving economic and financial stability and supporting development process through combating financial crimes, including money laundering and the financing of terrorism. Qatar became a member of the some 152 grouping in 2005.
