An intruder entered Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi’s home in CIT colony in Chennai by scaling a wall in an area where security guards had not been patrolling. Finding Karunanidhi’s wife Rajathi and a female relative in a room, he pointed a gun and demanded jewels and cash. Rajathi, however, alerted the guards outside. Later police found out that he only had a fake gun. Kanimozhi was not at home at the time of the incident. Security has been increased at Kanimozhi’s house.

Boy confesses to murder
A 16-year-old schoolboy surrendered to police after the February 3 death of his classmate at Chidambaram town in coastal Cuddalore district last week. The boy confessed he had pushed the victim, Tiruvengadam, inside the school bus. He disembarked at the school but failed to notice that Tiruvengadam had fainted. The boy later died on the way to hospital.  Police were puzzled as Tiruvengadam did not have any previous medical ailments. Meanwhile his classmate confessed the incident to his mother who urged him to surrender to police. The boy was not named and put in a juvenile prison.

Leading financier kidnapped 
A leading businessman/financier was kidnapped from Oddanchatram town in Dindigul district.
Witnesses said Arunachalam, 62, was out on a morning walk when a five-member gang kidnapped him. Police suspect one of his customers as being behind the crime. However his family has not received any ransom calls. 

Hospital staff arrested
Four employees of a private hospital were arrested for flying a drone at Greams Road, Chennai, last week without permission. They claimed to be working on a project to observe communicable diseases over slum areas. Police reprimanded the four for flying a drone without a certificate from the director general of civil aviation. They were let off with a warning while the drone was confiscated.

No takers for fish catch
Fishermen have taken to netting cephalopods like clams, squids, octopus and cuttlefish instead of fish after a major oil spill caused by the collision of two ships off Chennai coast earlier this month.Despite assurances from state fisheries department that fish stocks were safe for consumption, sales has fallen in the past fortnight.
