Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi met the General Manager of Qatar Fund for Development (QFD) Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari yesterday.
During the meeting, they reviewed the Fund’s efforts and works in Yemen and ways to develop and expand them in the future.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), QFD general manager said that he and the Yemeni president discussed projects carried out by the QFD in Yemen in addition to a number of projects to be implemented by the Fund there.
He stressed that the Yemeni president attached great importance to the power station which is being constructed on the orders of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. The  61.6MW power station is being constructed at a cost of $60mn, he added.
Al-Kuwari added that Yemeni president thanked the State of Qatar for its development projects in Yemen, especially the electricity generation project which he himself oversaw and was present during the delivery of the station’s turbines.
QFD general manager stressed that the support extended to Yemen in the electricity field is an integral part of Qatar’s commitment towards Yemenis, as these units provide electricity to a large number of vital state facilities such as hospitals and schools, in addition to thousands of homes, hoping that this facility will alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and help them overcome the difficult conditions they are undergoing.
Al-Kuwari said that the QFD is considering the implementation of a number of projects in Yemen in various medical, humanitarian, economic and educational fields to be announced soon.
