It has been more than 50 years since Maserati introduced the Quattroporte at the 1963 Turin Motor Show. The exciting concept of putting a race engine into a sedan has turned into a successful product for the Italian marquee and the latest iteration of Maserati’s flagship vehicle has now been unveiled in Qatar by Alfardan Sports Motors at their Pearl-Qatar showroom.
“The car is the flagship not only for our brand but is also a representation of exclusivity of the Italian design, of the sportiness of our engines and of the luxurious interiors that we can offer to our customers,” Luca Delfino, Maserati sales director Mena region, told Gulf Times during the unveiling.
The sixth-generation Quattroporte has undergone a host of changes that promises to make it even more attractive to its clientele. It has a sportier nose accentuated by the vertical chrome slats in the grille. New mirrors, side skirts and rear bumper all add up to give the Quattroporte a refreshed look.
On the inside, a new 8.4-inch infotainment system now greets the occupant, one that is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s a new rotary control in the central console. Also, this Maserati now comes with more driver assist features such as Forward Collision Warning and a new Surround View Camera. Besides, it has an Air Quality Sensor that calculates pollution levels on the outside and prevents the toxins from entering the cabin.
The biggest tweak, however, is the introduction of a new trim strategy by Maserati. The Quattroporte can now lean towards pure luxury or pure sport, depending on the customer’s inclination.
The GranLusso is for those seeking luxury. Apart from styling tweaks, one can now opt for the Ermenegildo Zegna Edition upholstery that uses a patented silk fabric.
Those opting for the GranSport trim will be able to enjoy the sport steering wheel, which comes in carbon fibre or full leather coupled with aluminium shift paddles. They also get 21” Titano rims and red brake callipers along with other tweaks that add to the sportiness.
“The Quattroporte was born when Maserati decided to put the engine of a race car into a four-door – ‘quattro porte’ – salon car in 1963. Nobody had done anything like that before and till today our Quattroporte drives with a Ferrari-produced engine. A legacy that now continues with the new model,” said Charly Dagher, general manager, Maserati Qatar at Alfardan Sports Motors.
