The Nepali Public Relations Committee (NPRC) – sister organisation of Nepali Congress (NC) – recently organised a programme to mark the country’s 41st National Unity and Reconciliation Day at Al Dosari Zoo and Park.
The day marks the return of the first democratically elected Prime Minister of the Himalayan nation – BP Koirala – from India with a proposal of national reconciliation to the then King, Birendra Shah, in order to establish the sovereignty of Nepalese people. NPRC celebrates the day each year in Qatar.
The programme was chaired by Keshav Bhusal, NPRC General Secretary, and was attended by more than 400 people, including Hari Aryal, second secretary at Nepal embassy. Other prominent people at the programme included Badri Pandey, Bimal Subedi, Kranti Singh and Dhiraj Chamling. NPRC advisers Arjun Khadka, Mahesh Joshi, Mohammad Shakir Ali, Raj Regmi and Sunita Pandey, and other working committee members and representatives from various community organisations also attended.
The event started with Nepal’s national anthem followed by a minute of silence for its martyrs. It then featured electrifying performances from Doha-based local artistes.
Singer Bijaya Adhikari performed a welcome song, describing January 22 as a very special day – the deadline to bring out new statute in Nepal. The artistes of Milatri Film then performed a national song. Mohan Shah also rendered a song, while Yasoda Basnet performed a dance.
Singers Debika KC and Jyoti Gurung engaged in a dohari – musical debate – as a commoner and a minister. During their performance, both blamed each other for the downtrodden path of their country.
The pair of Ajaya Pariyar and Nanda Pariyar essayed a dance.
Chief guest Hari Aryal praised NPRC for remembering national reconciliation, “an important event in Nepalese modern history.”
