The fourth edition of Winter Festival at Katara – the Cultural Village kicked off yesterday with an array of educational activities and entertainment shows at the esplanade.
Taking place until January 26, the five-day event features several workshops, traditional shows, games, and performances that enable residents and tourists to make the most of the prevailing pleasant weather.
In a statement, Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti said this year’s celebration offers a blend of educational programmes and entertaining performances that are guaranteed to enthral visitors.
“Numerous workshops and activities devoted to children will allow them to experience exciting moments, along with their family and friends,” he stressed.
“In addition, the launch of the festival at this time of the year coincides with the spring break of schools in Qatar, providing our children with an opportunity to invest their free time in activities that are both meaningful and useful,” Dr al-Sulaiti pointed out.
Katara is hosting the festival in collaboration with various ministries and associations in Doha, including the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and the Childhood Cultural Centre.
Al Gannas Association will also participate with an interactive exhibition and workshop on falconry and Saluki while Katara Souq will host a display of local antiques and traditional food.
Bin Muftah Medical Centre will hold an activity that aims to raise awareness on preventing illnesses commonly associated with the onset of winter.
Renowned Qatari blogger Vegas will be present at the venue to entertain visitors with his interpretation of the Winter Festival.
In addition, the organisers of Al Galayel Championship will host an exhibition displaying collectables and equipment from all previous championships. Visitors will receive gifts that have been generously donated by various institutes in Qatar.
The launch of the Winter Festival coincides with the inauguration of Katara Festival for Arabian Atyab, a new initiative. It also features an exhibition that will display Arabian scents, explaining the specific history, literature, folklore and tradition associated with oud fragrances. The festival is scheduled to run until February 12.
