President of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega met HE Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the post of director general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).
During the meeting, Qatar’s candidate conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to the Nicaraguan president and his wishes of more progress and prosperity to the Nicaraguan people.
The Nicaraguan president reciprocated the Emir’s greetings and wishes.
During the meeting, Dr al-Kuwari presented his vision for the Unesco and the Nicaraguan president expressed his appreciation for Qatar, stressing his country’s support for the Qatari candidate.
He highlighted Qatar’s role with Unesco and its keenness on education, culture and sciences, as well as its eagerness to serve the global community in vital sectors.
The president praised HE al-Kuwari’s qualification to handle the post, noting that his visit to the Caribbean and Latin American countries shows his appreciation of the region.
Dr al-Kuwari, in turn, thanked the president for the support and trust.
Mohamed El Ashtar, Nicaragua’s minister for the Middle East, Africa and Arab affairs, attended the meeting along with Laureano Ortega, the Nicaraguan government’s investment adviser.
HE Dr al-Kuwari had met El Ashtar earlier and discussed bilateral relations between Qatar and Nicaragua as well as the Qatari candidate’s vision for Unesco, with the minister wishing the Qatari candidate success in his mission and hoping to co-operate with him in the future.
