The weekly Cabinet meeting, presided over by HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, reviewed the outcome of the international conference on Middle East peace, which was recently held in Paris.
After the meeting, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud, said the Cabinet welcomed the conference’s closing statement that constitutes a proper foundation for a just settlement, stressing Qatar’s firm stance on the Palestinian issue and the Palestinian people’s right to establish their independent state based on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Cabinet also welcomed the decision of the United States to lift some of the economic sanctions that were imposed on Sudan, saying that such a decision would support the peace process and development in the country and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, expressing hope that the US sanctions on Sudan will be completely lifted.
The Cabinet then reviewed topics on the meeting’s agenda, approving a draft decision by the minister of economy and commerce to issue executive regulations of Law No 6 of 2012 on tourism regulation.
The draft regulations feature provisions related to the conditions and procedures of the licensing of hospitality and tourism facilities as well as tourism activities; the commitments of the licensee; relinquishing, transferring and revoking the licence; the classification of hospitality and tourism facilities; and the tourist guides.
The Cabinet also approved a draft decision by the minister of economy and commerce to issue the executive regulations of Law No17 of 2013 on the organisations of exhibitions.
The draft regulation included provisions on the types of licences and conditions of granting them; the types, number and period of exhibitions; the postponement and location of exhibitions; the classification of licensees; the commitments of licensees; and relinquishing, transferring, suspending and revoking the licence.
In addition, the Cabinet endorsed a proposal by the ministry of transport and communications on Qatar’s contribution to sponsoring five candidates on a five-year full scholarship in the field of civil aviation.
The session approved draft decisions by the minister of municipality and environment on Qatar adopting the Gulf standard specifications and the amendment of a number of Gulf technical regulations.
Additionally, the Cabinet reviewed a draft law on the amendment of some provisions of Law No 8 of 2012 on Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA) and the authority’s views in this regard.
It reviewed a letter by the minister of development planning and statistics, who is also the chairman of the Permanent Population Committee, on the document of Qatar’s new population policy 2017-2022.
The session also reviewed a letter by the minister of municipality and environment regarding a draft decision by the minister to determine the prices of leasing government lands.
The Cabinet also reviewed a letter by the minister of economy and commerce on Qatar Tourism Authority’s plan to participate in a number of global tourism exhibitions in 2017.
