HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani was yesterday re-elected president of the Qatar Olympic Committee for the 2017-2020 term. Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman al-Kuwari is the new secretary-general.
The election was held during the General Assembly held at the committee’s headquarters.
Besides HE Sheikh Joaan, the secretary-general and heads of Olympic committees attended the assembly.
They discussed the committee’s schedule for 2017, the new formation of different sports associations, as well as qualification for Tokyo Olympics 2020.
The new heads of the sports federations are: HE Sheikh Joaan (Qatar Air Sports Committee), HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Saoud al-Thani (special needs sports committee), HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani (Qatar Football Association), Nasser Ghanem al-Khulaifi (Qatar Tennis Federation and Squash), Dr Thani Abdulrahman al-Kuwari (Qatar Athletics Federation), Rabea Mohamed al-Kaabi (Qatar School Sport Association, Qatar Fencing Federation and Weight Lifting), Khalil Ahmed al-Mohanadi (Qatar Table Tennis Association), Ahmed Mohammed al-Shaabi (Qatar Handball Association), Khalid bin Hamad al-Attiyah (Taekwondo & Judo Federation), Hassan Nasser al-Nuaimi (Golf Association), Khalil Ibrahim al-Jaber (Qatar Swimming Association), Abdulsalam Abbas Hassan (Qatar Bowling Association), Yousuf Ali Kazim (Qatar Boxing Federation), Khalifa Mohamed al-Hitmi (Qatar Chess Association), Ali Ahmed al-Hitmi (Qatar Gymnastics Federation), Ali Ghanem al-Kuwari (Qatar Volleyball Association), Youssef Jaham al-Kuwari (Rugby, Hockey and Cricket Federations), Hamad bin Abdulrahman al-Attiyah (Qatar Equestrian Federation), Dr Mohamed Jaham al-Kuwari (Triathlon and Cycling Federation) and Lolwa Hussein al-Marri (Women’s Sports Committee).
At the conclusion of the assembly, HE Sheikh Joaan thanked the previous officials for their efforts and achievement.
