Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne met HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the post of Unesco’s director general in St John’s.
The meeting took place during al-Kuwari’s visit to Antigua and Barbuda to present his electoral programme under the theme “Towards a New Start for Unesco.”
The candidate plans to visit several countries including Caribbean and South American countries, where he will meet senior officials from these countries.
The prime minister expressed his country’s support to the Qatari candidate, wishing him success in his endeavours, and voiced the Caribbean countries’ trust in Dr al-Kuwari’s expertise which qualifies him to succeed in the position.
He also conveyed his admiration at Qatar’s development and prosperity in all fields, especially in education.
Dr al-Kuwari said he valued the support of the Caribbean countries which shows the deep relations between those countries and Qatar.
He also thanked the prime minister for his support, and promised that the region would be of top priority when he is appointed as director general of the Unesco.
The candidate also met Charles “Max” Fernandez, Minster of Foreign Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda where they discussed Dr al-Kuwari’s vision which focuses on giving Unesco a new start.
