Edward Justice scored 30 points and Quinton Doggett chipped in with 28 as Qatar Sports Club (QSC) recovered from a lacklustre start to post a 99-88 win over Al Wakrah in the Qatar Men’s League yesterday.
Al Wakrah dominated the game initially, notching up a 24-17 lead at the first quarter and then keeping themselves marginally ahead (46-43) at the midway stage.
But Qatar Sports Club produced a 25-point surge in the third quarter to turn the tables on their rivals and head into the final 10 minutes with a 68-63 advantage.
In the final quarter, Qatar Sports Club were even more assertive, scoring a whopping 31 points while limiting Al Wakrah to just 25. That helped Qatar Sports Club close out the match with a convincing 11-point win and earn the bragging rights for the day. Justice scored twice from three-pointers and converted eight of his nine free-throws, while Doggett nailed all his six free-throws.
For Al Wakrah, Thomas Blair and Olatokunbo Ayeni top-scored with 30 points each but with none of the other players managing to get into double digits they were always going to be in trouble, especially in the later stages.
Blair converted 10 of his 12 free-throws, but could only score twice from the tree-point mark in 14 attempts.
In the second match of the day, Al Gharafa thrashed Al Sadd 83-62 with Saad Abdulrahman and Arnold Alexander excelling for the winners with 22 points each.
Al Sadd led 26-20 at the end of the first quarter but faded away after that as Al Gharafa kept on consolidating. A 23-point effort by Al Gharafa in the third quarter proved decisive as Al Sadd could only score 13 in that period. For Al Sadd, Donald Sykes had 18 points while, Mohamed Ouri scored 15.
