The Jassim and Hamad bin Jassim Charitable Foundation (HBJ Foundation) has launched a project to build the Sheikh Jassim Hospital in Baker Province, Punjab region in Pakistan as part of the Foundation’s keenness to support and develop healthcare services in needy countries.
The Foundation said in a press release that the project was inaugurated in the presence of HE Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani, a founding member of (HBJ Foundation), Mohamed Shahbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of the government of Punjab province and a number of officials from both sides.
The statement said that the hospital will accommodate 50 beds, at a cost of about QR30mn.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Saeed al-Hajri, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HBJ Foundation said “The project is part of the Foundation’s interest in the development of the health sector in Pakistan and in support of the fraternal relations between the Qatari and the Pakistani people.”
He added that the hospital will be established according to the World Health Organisation standards, taking into account the number of population of the Province and that the hospital will be furnished and equipped with advanced medical equipment, immediately upon completion of construction works.
He pointed out that the hospital, which is expected to be built in 24 months, includes all public disciplines in addition to emergency services and accidents, obstetrics and gynaecology to serve more than 150,000 persons in the region and neighbouring areas, and will provide jobs for about 150 to 200 employees.
He said that the HBJ Foundation will operate the hospital for ten years, while the Pakistani government will provide the staff.
For his part, Mohamed Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab, expressed pleasure at the inauguration of the Sheikh Jassim Hospital project and thanked the Jassim and Hamad bin Jassim Charitable Foundation.
He also praised Qatar’s continued support to the Pakistani people.
He stressed that this project will be a major breakthrough in the field of healthcare, especially as the Punjab province is suffering from a severe shortage of private hospitals and qualified health services centres.
