The option to apply for exit permits for expatriate male children above 18 years was found to be missing on the Ministry of Interior's (MoI) Metrash2 application.

According to information available on the Qatar government's official website Hukoomi, "all expatriate residents, except wives and dependent children under family sponsorship, require an exit permit to leave the country."

Going by this statement, sons above 18 also do not require an exit permit as they also come under the category of dependent children. Until recently, it was essential for sons above 18 years who are under family sponsorship to get an exit permit.

Unconfirmed reports said sons up to the age of 25 years no more require exit permits but those who are above 25 and are still under their parents' sponsorship have to get a travel permit to go out of the country.

A passenger who was travelling to Dubai said the immigration authorities at the airport did not ask for the exit permit of his 20-year-old son, who was accompanying him.
