Ooredoo has yesterday announced it will be the Official Telecom Sponsors of the upcoming FC Barcelona vs Al Ahli Sports Club friendly football match.
The event, named Qatar Airways ‘Match of Champions’, will take place on 13 December 2016 at the Gharaffa Stadium in Qatar, and several top players from both teams have been announced to take part including Ooredoo’s Global Brand Ambassador Lionel Messi, Barcelona striker Luis Suarez and Al Ahli Centre-Forward Omar Soma.
The match, which is a joint effort between Qatar Airways, Qatar Football Association, Qatar Stars League and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, has been designed to give Qatar’s growing football fan base the chance to see two internationally
renowned clubs showcase their talents in a local stadium or live on TV around the world.
Ooredoo’s Chief Operating Officer Yousuf al-Kubaisi, commented: “Having the current La Liga and Saudi Professional League champions play in Doha will help inspire football fans in Qatar, and encourage our next-generation of football stars to work hard and follow their dreams.
“This is a huge step forward for our country’s standing as a top sporting destination, and Ooredoo will do all it can to ensure this event is shared around the world via our award-winning Supernet.”
As Official Telecom Sponsors, Ooredoo will provide internal communications for the event via the company’s TETRA radio solutions.
Ooredoo will also promote the event via its social media channels and SMS broadcast system.
In return the company will have its logo broadcast in top-quality across Qatar and the world, with millions expected to tune in to the highly-anticipated match.
Ooredoo has a long history of supporting footballing events in Qatar.
Currently the company is the Official Telecommunication Partner for all Qatar Football Association events until 2018, as the organisations work together to promote football in Qatar in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
