A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a young man to three years in jail and imposed a fine of QR18,000 on him for reckless driving without a valid driving license, causing the death of five Filipinos.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported that the court also ordered the defendant to pay QR200,000 for the legal inheritors of each of the five victims as blood money.

At the time of the accident, the defendant, a young man of 18 years old, was driving his vehicle, with expired registration or road permit, coming from the Air Force Street towards the Departures of the Air Port.

Because he was driving at a speed that exceeded 150 km/h on a street of speed limit of 60km/h, he lost control over his vehicle and crashed into a parked car with the victims inside. Due to the powerful crash, the fuel tank of the victims’ vehicle exploded and the car was on flames. Investigation of the concerned traffic department confirmed the mistake of the motorist and he admitted so. Accordingly the court established his guilt.
