Qatar Foundation (QF) is set to celebrate this year’s National Day by hosting a tent at Darb al-Saai packed with fun and exciting activities from  December 8-20.
The theme of the Darb al-Saai tent will be ‘Siraj’, QF’s new 3D animation edutainment TV series, which aims to instil a love of the Arabic language from an early age. Visitors to the tent will be accompanied by Rashid and Noura, the main characters of the programme, as they move through the different sections of the tent.
Fahad Saad al-Qahtani, president of Community Development, Qatar Foundation, said: “Qatar National Day represents an important annual milestone in our history; it commemorates our country’s unification and independence. It is also an opportunity for us, as a nation, to come together to reflect on our past accomplishments and the obstacles we have had to overcome, as well as look towards our future.
“A key component of Qatar National Day is the preservation of our local heritage and culture, and it is for this reason that the theme of this year’s tent is ‘Siraj’. We want to encourage children to embrace our language, as well foster a spirit of innovation and re-inforce positive values, to help protect our culture. As, at QF, we believe this is crucial to the development of our society,” al-Qahtani added.
Some of the exciting activities on offer this year include the QF Tram experience, which will take visitors on a journey detailing Education City’s schools, universities and research centres, while highlighting QF’s ongoing sustainability efforts. Additionally, QF’s popular National Reading Campaign will host a series of interactive games and learning opportunities for children, such as a book swap, story maze and Scrabble, as well as the innovative Reading Truck.
QF’s National Day schedule of events will also highlight its four mission areas: Pre-University Education (PUE), Higher Education, Research & Development (R&D), and Community Development. And, with activities catering to all ages, QF has invited members of the public to join the festivities, and celebrate the day.
The QF tent officially opens on December 8 at 4pm. Qatar National Day celebrations take place in the morning from 8am to 12noon and in the evening from 4pm to 10pm, with the evening of December 17 for ladies only.
