The Hazir concert featuring two renowned Indian musicians – Padma Bhushan Ustad Zakir Hussain and Padma Shri Hariharan - will be held at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) theatre today.
With this event, Doha joins global cultural centres such as New York, San Francisco, Sydney and London in hosting the legendary musical duo, organisers have said.
The concert has been brought to Doha by Music Lounge Events.
While Ustad Zakir Hussain is a tabla maestro who has also been a music producer, film actor and composer, Hariharan is considered one of the greatest ghazal and geet singers of modern times.
“Hazir – the concert has been a sellout event all over the world. Now, the residents of Qatar have the privilege to watch this great collaboration of musicians live on stage,” the organisers said in a statement.
Stephen Devassy, director of Music Lounge, will be performing solo on the grand piano before Ustad Zakir Hussain and Hariharan take the stage.
The organisers stressed that the Music Lounge management and team were “excited about the event, especially due to its pure classical nature”. “Music Lounge is also grateful for the support of sponsors who believe in the rich cultural heritage of India. The Government of Qatar has also been very responsive and supportive to the organisers to make arrangements for all necessary approvals and processes to make this event possible,” they added.
