Doha and other parts of Qatar are expected to see a “noticeable drop” in the mercury level in the coming days along with strong winds, the Qatar Met department has said.
This will coincide with what is locally known as Al-Marbaniah, which is considered the onset of winter and stretches for about 40 days starting December 7, according to a report issued by the weather office.
After a brief lull in windy conditions, warnings are expected to resume tomorrow afternoon as the country will be affected by an extension of a high-pressure system, accompanied by northwesterly fresh to strong winds lasting until next Monday (December 12), the report states.
These conditions are likely to reach their peak on Friday and Saturday.
Inshore winds are expected to range from 15-25/35 knots while visibility may reduce to 3km or less in some areas due to blowing dust.
Winds may reach a speed of 40 knots offshore with wave heights rising to over 14ft in the north.
The northerly winds will be accompanied by a noticeable drop in temperatures with a “greater feeling of coldness due to fresh winds”, the Met department adds.
The maximum temperature during this period is expected to range between 22C and 26C, and the minimum between 14C and 18C, in Doha.
It will be cooler in the external areas.
Al-Marbaniah is marked by an increase in cold conditions, cloudiness and rain in the Arabian Peninsula and temperatures drop considerably, especially at night.
