The Permanent Committee for the Management of Central Markets at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has announced investment opportunities for those interested leasing fish stalls in the Umm Salal Central Market, which is scheduled to open at the end of the first quarter of 2017.
In a statement issued by the MEC yesterday, the committee specified the procedures for offering such shops for lease, the application rules, tenants’ obligations and the allocation process.
The Umm Salal Central Market includes a slaughterhouse, a yard for fish auction, benches for selling fish, fish cleaning shops, an ice-making facility and a nursery.
Besides the fish trade, the MEC has been keen to provide a number of key services and products at the market, the statement notes. These include stalls for poultry, vegetables/fruits, meat and chilled meat as well as centres for the distribution of ration items and selling fodder and wholesale foodstuff.
The market will also feature outlets such as a fish and seafood restaurant, a cafeteria, an eatery, a bakery, a sweets and nuts shop, a café and honey outlet, as well as stores selling spices/herbs and marine/fishing tools. It will also have administrative offices.
The investment opportunities offered include 10 benches for selling fish, a fish and seafood restaurant, a cafeteria and a restaurant, and six vegetables/fruits shops - four for wholesale and two for retail. There are also 10 shops for various activities, including four for meat, three for poultry and three for milk/juice, in addition to an outlet each for the other activities, two administrative offices for auction, and three offices for the fish trade.
The ministry has set the leasing period at two renewable years. Shops will be furnished and equipped for some activities – including fish, poultry, meat and milk – for a sum of QR40,000, which is to be paid at the time of allocation.
Applicants should submit details such as valid commercial registration, valid commercial permit and installation registration. They also need to possess at least two years’ experience in the said field.
Tenants should start the designated activity within one month of getting their shop.
Those interested can download the application form from www.mec.gov.qa; completed forms will be received at the MEC headquarters - Tower B, third floor – from today until December 22.
The draw for winning applicants will be held on January 27, 2017, and the results be announced the same day. If there are more candidates than the number of shops, three applicants will be selected for each store, with one tenant and two standby candidates.
