Euromoney Qatar conference, which will begin next week, will have George Magnus, the leading economist and the man credited with predicting the US sub-prime crisis, as one of the keynote presenters.
In his international keynote, he will examine the global economic outlook, especially in the aftermath of the Brexit referendum and (Donald) Trump’s (US) presidency that will begin early in 2017. The Euromoney Qatar conference 2016 will run from December 6 to 7 2016 in Doha.
“As an economist, the past period has been one of the most interesting in recent history, given the volume and range of economic shocks we have encountered, from Brexit in Europe through to the recent election of Donald Trump. However, what is interesting is not necessarily comfortable for people or for financial institutions, and it is important that we fully understand the challenges we are facing,” said Magnus, who is currently an associate at the China Centre and Oxford University, and also an external senior adviser to UBS and other financial institutions.
He sees this year’s surprising political developments in the UK and the US as liable to roll-back into Europe, causing a major changes in economic policies and financial markets.
