Thirty activists of a group reportedly demanding secession of the Madhes region from Nepal were arrested yesterday during a protest in Kathmandu.
Police arrested activists supporting C K Raut, who has been demanding secession of the Madhes region from Nepal, from different places of Gaur in Rautahat district, the Himalayan Times reported.
As many as 30 cadres and supporters of the Raut-led Alliance for Independent Madhes were detained from various places of Gaur when they staged demonstration today, according to the Rautahat district police.
They had demonstrated near the district land revenue office, the Shivashakti Enterprises and the Rastriya Banijya Bank Chok.
“Investigation has been initiated against the protesters, including the Alliance coordinator Ashok Kumar Singh and his deputy Birendra Sah,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Nabin Krishna Bhandari was quoted as saying.
