Ambassador Ali bin Hassan al-Hammadi has been selected as the new secretary-general of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS).
Al-Hammadi has had a “rich diplomatic career” since 1976, QRCS said in a press statement.
A graduate of Alexandria University (1976), he attended many diplomatic, consular and ceremonial courses while working at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Qatar’s embassy in Egypt. He also participated in numerous Arab, Islamic and international conferences and wrote a number of works on his diplomatic experience.
Al-Hammadi sees diplomacy and humanitarian action as “two sides of the same coin”.
In his capacity as ambassador to different countries, he was closely in touch with relief and development projects conducted by Qatari charitable and humanitarian organisations across Africa and Asia.
“Qatari charities and particularly QRCS have proved reliable and effective, as evident in decades of humanitarian activities for the benefit of millions of people everywhere,” al-Hammadi said.
“I ask God for success in my new mission with QRCS, which is always at the forefront of efforts to help the communities affected by natural disasters, armed conflict, and poverty in needy countries.
“In Qatar, QRCS is a top provider of social, health, training, awareness and empowerment services for all segments of society. This contributes immensely to Qatar’s bright image both locally and globally.”
