An Indian expatriate who had not travelled home for more than 30 years was killed in a road accident in Doha's Al Hilal area early this week.
Sources said the deceased has been identified as 74-yer old Shaik Mohamed Rowther Dawood Sahib Haja Mohideen (pictured) , who had been working at a Qatari home in Al Hilal for more than four decades. He was killed on Monday evening after a speeding vehicle knocked him down while he was crossing a road near his employer's house, inquiries found.
Dawood Sahib hailed from Thiruvarur Taluk in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district but no other information was available about his family or immediate relatives, other than he held an Indian passport which would expire in October 2018.
His sponsor has sought the help of members of the Indian expatriate community for information about any of his immediate relatives either in Qatar or back home.
While informing this, humanitarian worker Abdul Salam Palakkad said he has learnt from the sponsor's representatives that Dawood Sahib's wife and his daughter had passed away several years ago and he had not gone home since their deaths. He is believed to have visited his native place in the mid-1980s, sources said.
Salam and Dawood Sahib's sponsor are meeting Indian embassy officials on Thursday to trace his relatives in Kuthur in Thiruvarur district, Thanjavur. Any body who knew Dawood Sahib may contact Salam on 55821005.
Another Indian expatriate worker, who also came from Thanjavur district and had not been able to travel home for 14 years due to some financial difficulties, had died in Qatar of heart attack, last year.
Abdul Khader Meeran, 67, died on September 22, 2015 at his accommodation in the Industrial Area, where he used to work as a watchman.
