Around 85% of construction work at the Aquaculture Research Centre project in Ras Matbakh has been completed, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has announced.
In a statement, the ministry said it expected construction to be completed in the first quarter of next year.
HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi conducted a field tour of the project yesterday and was provided with comprehensive details of the project and its targets.
He directed the officials concerned to speed up work in the remaining phases of the project to ensure its completion within the designated period.
The centre has raised its production capacity to 10mn small fish a year.
Ras Matbakh is located north of Al Khor and the centre will be spread over an area of 110,000sq m, developed at a cost of QR230mn.
The centre is a scientific institution specialising in environment and marine research and fish hatcheries.
It will be equipped with the latest scientific laboratories for studying the marine environment.
Further, it is expected to contribute towards boosting fish production and the fisheries industry in the country.
