HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the post of director general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), yesterday met a number of officials in Cameroon, including Secretary General of the Presidency, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh.
During the meeting, al-Kuwari gave a detailed presentation of his vision and plan to promote Unesco, and expressed his gratitude to Cameroon for the hospitality and support.
In turn, the presidency’s secretary general welcomed the Qatari candidate on behalf of President Paul Biya, and voiced his appreciation for Qatar and its leadership and his aspiration to develop ties between the two countries.
He also expressed his confidence in the abilities of the Qatari candidate and Cameroon’s trust in him.
Al-Kuwari also met with Minister of Higher Education Jacques Fame Ndongo and their talks focused on issues related to education as the main pillar of development.
They also touched on the Qatari candidate’s vision for Unesco in the field of education.
The minister expressed his appreciation and admiration of Qatar’s keenness on education and what it offers to some African countries in this field.
He also voiced Cameroon’s appreciation for the Qatari candidate and its wishes of success for him.
Al-Kuwari also met Minister of Arts and Culture Narcisse Mouelle Kombi and discussed the importance of culture in international relations, the cultural ties between the two countries, and multiculturalism and its rule in cultural enrichment.
