HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani discussed with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan means to promote strategic relations between the two countries in different spheres.
The meeting, which was held at Istanbul’s Huber Palace, also discussed regional developments, especially in Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Yemen and Libya.
The meeting focused on repercussions of the Syrian crisis on the region and the international community as a whole.
HH the Emir and Turkish president emphasised the importance of concerted international efforts to seek a resolution that would stop the war in Syria.
Tthe Emir and the President Erdogan also discussed the situation in Iraq, particularly the recent developments in the city of Mosul, the importance of fighting terrorism and the preservation of Iraq’s unity.
The meeting was attended by the members of the delegation accompanying the Emir, and several Turkish ministers.
Earlier on arrival the Emir and the accompanying delegation were welcomed at the Ataturk International Airport by Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Chaooh Ihsanoglu, Governor of Istanbul Vasip Shahin, Qatar’s ambassador to Turkey, Salem bin Mubarak al-Shafi along with a number of senior Turkish officials and staff of the Qatari embassy.
The Emir left Turkey yesterday evening, after a short official visit.
The Emir and the accompanying delegation were seen off at Ataturk International Airport by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Governor of Istanbul Vasip Sahin, Qatar’s ambassador to Turkey Salem bin Mubarak al-Shafi, a number of senior officials, and the staff of the Qatari embassy in Istanbul.
