HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the director general post at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), met yesterday with Mayor of the city of Rome Virginia Raggi.
During the meeting, Dr al-Kuwari presented his vision on the role of culture and heritage in international relations, and also spoke in detail about the importance of and the need to preserve the heritage and regard it anywhere in the world as the heritage and conscience of humanity throughout history, stressing the importance of the Unesco’s role in co-operation with countries and historic cities as well as the significance of working on the restoration and preservation of heritage.
The mayor of Rome thanked Qatar’s candidate for his initiative to visit and exchange views with her, wishing the Qatari candidate success in his quest. She also expressed eagerness to co-operate with him in the future.
In a related development, the Qatar’s Unesco candidate met with Diplomatic Adviser to the Italian President Emanuela D’Alessandro who conveyed the president’s wishes for his success.
Dr al-Kuwari presented, during the meeting, his vision for the advancement of Unesco, and expressed his thanks to Italy and the attention it attached to his candidacy as well as the opportunity given to him to reach out to Italian institutions and to meet with Italian officials.
The meetings were attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Italy Abdulaziz bin Ahmed al-Malki and Italian officials.

Qatar-Cyprus ties reviewed
President of the House of Representatives in Cyprus Dimitris Syllouris met Qatar’s ambassador Sultan bin Ibrahim al-Mahmoud.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between Qatar and Cyprus and ways of enhancing them, in addition to issues of common concern.

Chief of staff in Morocco talks
HE the Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces Major General (Pilot) Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanem conferred yesterday with Bouchaib Arroub, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone in Morocco.
They discussed issues of common concern and reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing them, especially in military fields.

Qatar-Red Crescent ties discussed
HE the Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry Dr Ahmed bin Hassan al-Hammadi met the Undersecretary General for Partnerships at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, Jemilah Mahmood, in Doha yesterday.
They discussed ways to enhance co-operation between Qatar and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
