Qatar has paid particular attention to the promotion of the international law and the rule of law at the national and regional levels.
In this context, Qatar was keen on involving diplomats and specialists in international law in the sessions of the United Nations Programme of Assistance in the Teaching of International Law, as it has continued to provide financial support for the programme, based on its policy in which the international law is one of its basic pillars.
This came in a statement delivered by member of Qatar’s delegation at the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly Saud Meqbel al-Qahtani before the UN Programme of Assistance in the Teaching, Study and Wider Appreciation of International Law.
Al-Qahtani said that Qatar supports all efforts that help the programme to continue its task and provides financial resources to achieve this, whether through the regular budget or direct support from States for the regional sessions of the programme to enable the two laws and those concerned to international law to participate, particularly from developing countries that need to provide financial resources for the participation of their candidates to those sessions.
He stressed in the statement that Qatar will continue to provide all possible support for the United Nations Programme to assist in the teaching of the International Law, expressing Qatar’s belief in the importance of this programme and the role played by the Legal Codification Division.
Al-Qahtani also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the United Nations Programme to assist in the teaching, study, dissemination and wider appreciation of International Law and commended the report of the Secretary General on the issue.
He stressed that the establishment of the United Nations marked the beginning of a new era in international relations based on international law and the rule of law, in order to ensure the achievement of the UN objectives, particularly the international peace and security.
He said there was a need to increase awareness of the importance of international law.
