HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the post of director general at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), arrived yesterday in Rome.
The visit comes as part of the Qatari candidate’s ongoing election tours as he continues meetings with Italian officials that he started in September.
Dr al-Kuwari is also set to give a lecture tomorrow before the Mediterranean Universities Union Forum at the invitation of the union, during which he will explain his electoral programme that bears the slogan ‘Toward a New Momentum’ and his vision.

Katara, Omani Cultural Club sign agreement
The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara has signed a cultural co-operation agreement with the Omani Cultural Club. The agreement comes within the framework of Katara’s strategy aimed at providing an integrated and ideal climate to promote cultural and artistic movement in the Qatari society.


Ford recalls 3 models

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce, in collaboration with AlMana Motors, has announced the recall of Ford Expedition, F150 and Mustang, model year 2011-2012, over a potential defect in the reprogramming of the powertrain control module.
The MEC said the recall campaign comes within the framework of its ongoing efforts to protect consumers and ensure that car dealers follow up on vehicle defects and repairs. The MEC will co-ordinate with the dealer to follow up on the maintenance and repair works and communicate with customers to ensure that the necessary repairs are carried out.

Over 1,800 apply for camping permits
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s (MME) Department of Environment Protection, Protectorates and Wildlife received 1,866 requests from Qataris for the winter camping season (2016- 2017) until yesterday afternoon.
Saad Ibrahim al-Kaabi, general co-ordinator of the winter camping, said the registration process is progressing smoothly, whether at the various government centres or through MME website.
“Al Mazrouah and the Sealine Areas are the most preferred areas,” he said while adding that after registering and paying the required deposit, applicants should go to the concerned unit to finalise the necessary procedures for camping.
