Clashes broke out between police and protesters in the Corsican city of Bastia yesterday, after hooded youth tossed Molotov cocktails and lit a vehicle on fire, French broadcaster iTele reported citing the prefecture.
The clashes began in the afternoon at the end of a demonstration against a ruling last week by a Paris court.
The court convicted three young Corsican nationalists of ramming a car into a public building in the small village of Corte in 2012.
A few thousand people came out to march in protest of the prison sentences handed down by the court, which ranged between 5 and 8 years, local broadcaster France 3 reported.
The broadcaster said the demonstrators were also Corsican nationalists, who support autonomy or independence for the Mediterranean island.
