He was responsible for introducing Arabic as a second language in Indian schools here. His ‘Arabic for English Schools’ is a recommended series for CBSE schools in India and abroad.
And he delivers Arabic lessons as Radio Teacher on UAE-based Radio Voice of Kerala, followed by thousands of listeners worldwide.
And now Amanulla Vadakkangara has come up with another hands-on solution to learning Arabic, a language guide book that anyone can use to learn basic spoken Arabic at home.
Spoken Arabic Guide is the latest book in the series of language guides by the Doha-based Vadakkangara, who is also a writer, an academic and an entrepreneur. After teaching at local community schools, he has conducted multiple courses of Arabic learning for the local expatriate community members.
The book was officially released here recently at a ceremony at Friends Cultural Centre (FCC). Dr M P Hassan Kunhi, a long time Doha resident and a prominent Indian entrepreneur, released the book by handing over a copy to Muhammedunni Olakara, global chairman of Anti-smoking Society.
Dr Kunhi, in his speech, highlighted the importance of Vadakkangara’s initiative and how useful it will be for people coming to work in Qatar. He urged expatriates to take advantage of the opportunity and make the best use of the resource.
“Getting familiarised with Arabic language will benefit all expatriates, and help them sharpen their communication skills and improve efficiency at work place. It will also strengthen socio-cultural relations,” said Dr Kunhi.
He also mentioned a recently announced decision by the Ministry of Economy and Trade, making it mandatory for all business tools including invoices, product labels, service lists, and warnings about health risks to be in Arabic.
Hotels, shopping malls, car showrooms, maintenance centres, and other stores have also been asked to assign at least one Arabic speaking employee at their reception desk.
“In this context it is very important that all expatriates should try to master at least the basics Arabic communication,” said Dr Khunhi.
He praised Vadakkangara’s efforts in spreading the language as much as possible and called upon the community to make use of every opportunity to learn Arabic language.
On receiving the first copy of the book, Muhammedunni Olakara said it is very important to learn the language of the country you are living in for a number of reasons.
“Arabic language, apart from its rich cultural and traditional values, is the most important language for communication in Qatar and the region. Knowing the language will greatly improve the communication skills of the expatriates letting them easily communicate with the government departments and the citizens of the country,” said Olakara.
Moreover, he added, it will help people understand the cultural and local traditions of the country.
“Arabic is one of the most vibrant languages in the world. Learning Arabic language will help the expatriates in the country to converse and deal with others more confidently and conveniently,” said Olakara while highlighting the need to and importance of learning Arabic language.
It is important for every expatriate to know the language of the country so that they feel integrated with the culture and values of the country, he added.
Habeeburahman Kizhissery, the Executive Director of Friends Cultural Centre, also spoke on the occasion.
This latest book is the twelfth book in Vadakkangara’s Spoken Arabic series. He has developed different programmes aimed at different segments of the society. All his books are hailed as essentials on the topic.
His major books on Spoken Arabic are Spoken Arabic Made Easy, Spoken Arabic for All, Spoken Arabic Tutor, Spoken Arabic Master, A formula to speak Arabic and Spoken Arabic Gurunathan. He has successfully conducted several batches of Spoken Arabic programmes in Qatar.
