Qatar's population is slowly inching back to its previous highest levels, show the September figures released by Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.

At 2.553mn, Qatar’s September population was 6.3% higher than the August figures (2.402mn).
The rise in population is seen as the result of the return of many of the country's residents after the summer holidays and the arrival of large numbers of workers newly recruited for ongoing and forthcoming infrastructural projects.

The ministry also said that the latest figure was at least 8% more than the figures of the corresponding period last year.
Qatar's population had touched an all-time high on May 31 when it reached 2.587mn on May 31. However, as usual there was a steady fall in the next three months as a large number of the residents travelled out on vacation.
In July it had fallen to the lowest level of the recent months at 2.326mn. However as residents began to return to the country from vacation starting from the middle of August, the figure kept going up in the succeeding months.
It is expected that the population will surpass the previous highest figure by the end of this month. The growth will continue at least until the end of April next year, it is learnt.
