Two rightwing Hindu leaders were murdered in separate incidents sparking communal tension and violence and leading to the imposition of curfew in several districts.
On September 18, Suri, 45, the district secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Krishnagiri was hacked to death by an armed gang while he travelling in his car at Nehru Nagar.
The four assailants came on bikes and reportedly stabbed him to death.
Three days later, C Sasikumar, 36, a spokesman of the Hindu Munnani political party was killed by an armed gang at Subramaniyampalayam in Coimbatore district. He died of stab wounds.
