Hyatt Plaza has held the monthly Walking Club event and rewarded the club’s members who showed dedication and hard work to adopt and maintain their healthy lifestyle.
The first mall walking club in Qatar, the Hyatt Plaza Mall Walking Club is an initiative carried out in partnership with Step Into Health. It is aimed at cultivating a daily walking culture among families, who can walk in a calm, safe and secure indoor environment with their loved ones, according to a press statement.
The initiative’s objectives are contributing to the creation of a healthy nation and strengthening the fight against rising obesity, diabetes and health-related issues; providing a safe, secure and climate-controlled venue for people to walk, throughout the year, regardless of weather changes; encouraging the culture of walking regularly among customers and the community at large; and developing a local community of people who are committed to living a healthy lifestyle.
The mall’s general manager, Feroz Moideen, said: “We truly believe our ‘walk in the mall’ initiative will complement and support the country’s vision of creating a healthy nation.”
The members are regularly offered a chance to have free health check-ups. International experts from Aspire Active also offer free briefing sessions to walkers on the last Saturday of every month, offering them tips about healthy living habits and exercises.
The Walking Club currently gathers more than 400 members from 23 nationalities and has a rewards programme in place to encourage people to walk more. Regular members get a chance to win gift vouchers and pedometers every month.
This month, the family mall has celebrated 18 members from 11 nationalities, who have won gifts and awards for their consistent daily walks and efforts. Latha Unnikrishnan, Welathantrige Botejue and Leah Unnikrishnan were among the winners who expressed happiness at achieving better results and adopting a healthier lifestyle.
