HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday sent a cable of congratulations to Republic of Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita on the anniversary of his country’s Independence Day.
HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani also sent a similar cable of congratulations to President Keita on the anniversary.
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani also sent a cable of congratulations to President Keita on the anniversary of his country’s Independence Day.

Farewell held for Moroccan envoy
HE the Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry, Dr Ahmed bin Hassan al-Hammadi, yesterday held a farewell ceremony in honour of Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco Al Makki Kwan.
A number of their excellencies, heads of diplomatic missions and offices accredited to the State of Qatar and directors of departments at the Foreign Ministry attended the ceremony at the Diplomatic Club.
Separately, Dr al-Hammadi yesterday met the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the State of Qatar Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Aifan. They discussed bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and ways of developing them as well as means of enhancing the prospects for co-operation, and matters of common concern.

Qatar stands firm in war on terror
HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi reiterated Qatar’s commitment to work with member states of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) to eradicate the scourge of terrorism.
Addressing the GCTF 7th ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York, HE the Minister underlined that the State of Qatar greatly support the international efforts to implement the UN strategy in countering terrorism.
He said that countering terrorism requires redoubled international efforts and an effective co-operation to address the threats.
He called for developing advanced mechanisms to address the scourge of terrorism and for promoting plans that keep pace with evolution and constant change in the work of terrorist organisations.
He noted that the State of Qatar is one of the founders of the global fund to involve local communities and enhance their ability to adapt, and it is among the largest contributors to this fund, which attaches particular importance to protect the youth from the ideas and schemes of extremist and violent groups.
He stressed Qatar’s support to all efforts made in the framework of Forum that contribute to take concrete measures to combat the scourge of terrorism, with a commitment to human values to maintain the common interests.
HE the Minister praised the co-operation between the GCTF and other international forums, and stressed the importance of continued co-operation in order to reach the best results.
He added that the defeat of terrorism requires effective and binding international strategies that take into account of the roots of extremism and its causes, particularly poverty, ignorance and unemployment, and other social and economic phenomena which result in extremism and terrorism.

International Day of Peace marked
The Qatar Youth Hostels celebrated International Day of Peace observed around the world on September 21 every year.
The celebration came in the framework of the International Youth Hostel Federation programmes which aim at developing the sense of peace among the peoples of the world, especially the youth sectors.
The celebration, held on Wednesday night at Qatar Youth Hostels headquarters, included a lecture about spreading the culture of peace among children, stemming from the tolerant teachings of Islam, which calls for the establishment of peace in the world and spread of love and tolerance among all.
The event also included prizes for the most distinct contributions about the importance of peace in the different cultures.
In a press statement on the sidelines of the celebration, Qatar Youth Hostels deputy executive manager Abdullah Salim al-Bakri underlined keenness of the Youth Hostels to spread the culture of peace among the youth.
He noted that the International Peace Day comes this year amidst conflicts and political conditions that require to pay more attention to spreading the culture of peace, especially among youth circles.

Live fire exercise
The Qatar Armed Forces General Command forces has announced that the marine shooting range (OBD-28), located east of Mesaieed near Fasht Al-Hadid, will be active from October 2 to December 2, from 6am to 5pm every day.
The General Command said in a statement that the marine range is located toward the east from the area of Mesaieed, a distance of approximately 40km at an angle of 105 from the port of Mesaieed near Fasht Al-Hadid from the east, and extends to the south of Shraouh Island.
The Qatari Armed Forces General Command warns those who frequent the area to take precautions for their own safety.
