More than QR12bn has been earmarked since March 2014 for improving infrastructure facilities across Qatar through as many as 29 projects, according to the annual report of the Public Works Authority, Ashghal.
Three of the main projects are in the Doha Industrial Area. A total of QR1.40bn was  allocated for package 1 of the works for improving infrastructure facilities and roads in the Industrial Area, covering an area of more than 4.8mn sqm. It includes works to strengthen and upgrade more than 38km of roads.
For package 2 of the project, which covers an area exceeding 3.5mn sqm, QR1.24bn was allotted. The work includes improvement of 39km of roads in the Industrial Area.
The works coming under package 6 of the infrastructure development in the Industrial Area were allotted QR1.24bn. Works are going on to improve and upgrade the existing road network of more than 21km in the Industrial Area. Besides improving the roads, works to strengthen drainage, street lighting and installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems are also included in addition to protection, relocation and upgrading of the existing utilities.
Other major projects include QR674mn worth of works being carried out in Northern Wukair, covering an area of nearly 2.360mn sqm. It includes the work on integrated roads, sewage networks, pedestrian roads, and cycle paths besides street lighting and beautification of the area.
For similar infrastructural development works in Al Kheesa North and East (Rawdat Al Hamam), QR662mn has been allocated. It covers an area of approximately 1.5mn sqm and will serve no less than 600 residential plots, mosques and other facilities.
Roads and other infrastructure projects in Bani Hajer North (package 1 and 2) will get a massive facelift with the allocation of QR663mn. Besides the roads, the works will also cover landscaping, sewerage effluent treatment, street lighting and installation of new traffic signals.
Another major work is the development of roads and other infrastructure in Rawdat Abal Heeran (package 1) . The QR547mn project includes works such as building roads, sewage effluent treatment facilities, groundwater drainage facilities and development of streets in the area.
The report also mentions about the QR518mn works to be undertaken in and around Al Mashaf on the outskirts of Al Wakra. A total area exceeding 2.09mn sqm is covered. As part of the works, new roads of more than 85km will be laid in the area.
