The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) recently detected 27 violations of Law No 8 for 2008 on consumer protection. 
The ministry has conducted an inspection campaign in the local market as part of its preparations for Eid al-Adha. The initiative covered more than 1,500 shops selling products such as clothes, shoes, foodstuff, vegetables and fruits in addition to beauty parlours and barbershops. 
The violations detected during the campaign include manipulation of prices, not pasting proper information labels on the items on display, holding promotions without permits, unauthorised increase in the price of Australian mutton and others. 
Penalties for such violations include closure of the outlet concerned and fines ranging from QR3,000 to QR1mn, or either.
