Five lion cubs have recently been born to lioness Lara at the Doha Zoo, the Public Gardens Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), announced.

The new born cubs were kept with their mother in a closed room for two months to avoid any disturbance which would have caused her to eat them.

During this period the cubs were breastfed by the mother. From three months the cubs were gradually fed with meat until they were finally separated from their mother.

The father lion was not allowed to remain with the female and her cubs after the birth, to rule out the possibility that he might eat them out of jealousy.

The cubs are in good health. The Doha Zoo, currently under renovation, remains closed to the public.
