The Animal Wealth Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has conducted a second training course for the livestock farm owners and workers at the farm complex in the Kheraib area.
The course aimed at equipping the participants with the sophisticated skills to enhance livestock production in the country using the latest methods and encouraging them to use scientific methods in improving the breeds of high quality.
In addition, trainees were introduced to the best practices in the field on how to take care of the animals (sheep and goats in particular) and the proper ways of maintaining a timely schedule for veterinary care, with special focus on the mandatory vaccinations to avoid any potential infections.
Further, the course included a field training, where the trainees were instructed on the technical specifications that should be available at farms, the proper way of using the available plot of land to maximise productivity, balanced nutrition of animals, improving breeds, and evaluation of the status of animals regarding their weight and breeding suitability.

A number of veterinary experts gave lectures at the training and helped the trainees with practical guidance and expertise on various issues. As an integral part of the course, trainees were given an opportunity of an open question-answer session, where all their concerns and queries were discussed and clarified by the experts.
More than 30 farm owners were invited to take part in the course, accompanied by a large number of farm workers from different nationalities.
Meanwhile, the Municipality of Al Khor and Al Zakhira, in collaboration with MME Public Cleaning Department, conducted a free cleaning campaign covering some of the abandoned houses there.
Insects and Rodents Control Unit at the Municipality of Al Khor and Al Zakhira conducted the first phase of a campaign against insects and rodents at Al Khor City.
The General Control Section at the Municipality of Al Khor and Al Zakhira conducted an intensive search campaign within its jurisdiction, and 20 abandoned vehicles were removed. In addition, a number of violations of the Public Cleaning Law were spotted and legal procedures taken against the violators.
The Municipality of Umm Salal's Department of Services Affairs removed around 18 tonnes of domestic and varied garbage within the second quarter of this year (April to June), in addition to 5,193 discarded tyres, 327 animal carcasses, and 93 abandoned vehicles and equipment.
During the same period also, 3,833 requests to combat insects were addressed, and 188 for rodents, besides 1,908 periodical operations were conducted against insects and 242 for rodents.
As many as 33,540 seasonal flower seedlings were planted in the various areas of the municipality and 212 Sidra trees were sprayed with insecticides.
The Public Gardens Department at Doha Municipality conducted a soil cleaning operation around a considerable number of the palm trees within its jurisdiction to enhance their life and maintain a healthy growth.
