Two GCC citizens have been sentenced to 10 years in jail each and directed to pay a fine of QR400,000 for drug peddling and consumption.
According to local Arabic daily Arrayah, the two men were convicted by a Doha Criminal Court for consuming hashish and trying to circulate it within the country in exchange for money.
The defendants were arrested while they were trying to sell hashish to an undercover police source for a sum of QR5,000.
Earlier, the source had approached one of the defendants to buy some hashish from him based on instructions from the security department concerned in order to hunt down drug dealers, the daily said.
Accordingly, the two defendants agreed to meet the source near a health centre for the delivery, which was monitored by police patrols from a distance.
Eventually, the two men were arrested and they admitted to consuming the contraband. An investigation also proved that they would also sell the drugs to others.
