The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) has appointed Acting Deputy Secretary General Rogelio Villa Jr as officer in charge of the Office of the Secretary General, the highest position in the movement.
Villa took over the post vacated by Acting Secretary General Wendel E Avisado, who was elected BSP national president.
Avisado replaced former vice president Jejomar Binay, who took a leave to join the presidential race.
As secretary general, Villa will be in charge of the operation of the national headquarters and the more than 124 councils of the BSP scattered throughout the country.
An engineer, Villa started as board member of the Manila Council before becoming council executive. He was called to the National Office to head the administration division. He also served as operations director, then programme director, before becoming the head of the Field Operations Division which handles all concerns of the regions and the councils.
Villa became popular for his successful handling of various BSP events, including the Centennial Jamboree held in Clark in 1999, one of the most attended jamborees in the country.
As OIC, Villa will be responsible to the board and will take charge of key events like the Annual National Council meeting and the Annual Scout Executive Council meeting.
Villa said President Rodrigo Duterte will be invested soon as chief scout.
