Chandigarh’s famed ‘Capitol Complex’, was yesterday added to the Unesco’s world heritage list, an official said. The final decision of inclusion was taken at a meeting held by Unesco in Turkey, a spokesman of the Chandigarh administration said. “It is a moment of pride for our city as Capitol Complex (right) gets the Heritage Status. The administration promises all the residents that we will conserve and preserve this heritage site and make the city a major international tourism destination,” adviser to the Union Territory administration Parimal Rai said. The Capitol Complex was designed by Chandigarh’s founder architect Le Corbusier in the 1950s when the city was constructed as a symbol of independent, modern India.
