KidzMondo Doha, Qatar’s one-of-a-kind miniature edutainment city, celebrated Garangao with young patients at the Hamad General Hospital recently, paying tribute to the traditional festival deeply rooted in Qatari heritage.
KidzMondo’s iconic characters, Kozmo and Leeloo, distributed gifts to the children. “KidzMondo has been founded on the very basis of enriching children’s lives with joyful activities, while instilling in them the values of good citizenship and developing their knowledge and skills to paint a brighter future for themselves and the community,” general manager Nabil R Barakat said.
Hamad General Hospital’s chief of staff Dr Yousuf al-Maslamani thanked KidzMondo Doha for taking the initiative to share the traditional festival’s joyful spirit with HMC’s patients.
“This initiative helped raise the children’s spirits while at the same time reviving a local tradition by encouraging Qatar’s younger generation to celebrate the country’s history and heritage,” al-Maslamani noted.
Garangao is a traditionally celebrated event on the 14th night of Ramadan across the Gulf region. Children celebrate the holy month’s values of sharing, as they go around their neighbourhoods, knocking at doors, dressed up in colourful, traditional Qatari clothes, singing the event’s signature song along with cloth bags that they carry around to collect nuts and candies from their neighbours.
