Qatar has underlined that the elimination of violence against women “is not only important for development, but also for achieving social peace and security and promoting all human rights on an equal footing”.
This came in the speech delivered by Noor Ibrahim al-Sada, Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office at Geneva, during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, as part of the 32nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Al-Sada pointed out that Qatar had developed a roadmap to achieve development which is Qatar National Vision 2030 that
highlights various sectoral strategies that give more attention to the empowerment of women and strengthen their capacity; in order to ensure their active participation in all areas.
She noted that the women’s rights in Qatar had witnessed lately a distinct boom, either through enhancing rights which are outlined in the Constitution, or by reviewing some laws in favour of women.
Another contributing factor is the establishment of competent mechanisms of empowerment and protection such as Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW) which includes a number of centres, especially the protection and social rehabilitation centre, which handles the empowerment, rehabilitation and  protection of women victims of violence and their reintegration into society.
Al-Sada discussed ways to benefit from technical assistance programmes implemented by the High Commissioner for Human Rights Office of the States and regional activities in the elimination of violence against women and promote their participation in the implementation of agenda of the sustainable development 2030.
