The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has launched a short message service (SMS) for Qatar ration cards holders to track every transaction done using the card.
The Ministry said the move aims at enhancing the protection of consumers’ rights and to guarantee that the ration supplies reach those entitled for them. 
The citizens will be able to receive SMS on the registered mobile number linked to the ration card, the Ministry said.
The initiative is also meant to enhance Ministry’s control of the local market and discover any violations immediately. MEC has urged the citizens who have not yet received the SMS alert in this regard to send an SMS to 50026060 including full name of the card holder, ID number, ration card number and contact details, or e-mail the same to [email protected] . In case of any doubt or suspicious transactions, the citizens should contact the call centre on 16001. 
The Ministry  reiterated that subsidised ration materials livestock fodder is an exclusive right for the citizens and cannot be given to others for any reason whatsoever. Any violations will be decisively dealt with by the Ministry.
