Monday, June 6, will be the first day of Ramadan, the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs said in a statement.

The announcement came following a meeting for the committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs on Sunday evening.

AFP adds: The annual fasting month of Ramadan is due to begin on Monday in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen, religious authorities in those countries said.
The announcement was made on Sunday after the sighting of the crescent moon.
Other Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa are also expected to begin observing Ramadan on Monday or on Tuesday.
During Ramadan, Muslims around the world abstain from eating, drinking and smoking from dawn to dusk.
