Eleven people died and 12 injured in a fire that broke out on Wednesday in a labour accommodation of a company working on Salwa Tourism Project, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced on its Twitter page on Thursday.

“The firefighting team reached the site in record time and evacuated the premises and controlled the spread of the fire to adjacent areas,” according to the MoI.
The charred bodies of the victims have been shifted to the Hamad Hospital mortuary. The injured are hospitalised. "Investigation is on to identify the causes of the fire," MoI added.
According to community sources, the camp housed hundreds of workers but due to the timely intervention of the Civil Defence and police personnel the spread of the blaze was contained and several precious lives saved.
The nationalities of the victims could not be identified. Some of the bodies have been charred beyond recognition, a source said.
Meanwhile, a fire that erupted at a portacabin near the Aspire Zone on Thursday afternoon has been brought under control by firefighters. According to sources, there have been no injuries.
