Qalco beat Bin Yousef Cargo by 14 runs in the final to clinch the 1st Mohamed Shamlan Memorial Cricket Tournament. The tournament, sponsored by Qatar Lubricants, had the tops 8 teams of Division I competing on a knockout basis and was played at MIC Sports Complex in Umm Mesaieed. The tournament was dedicated to the late Mohammed Shamlan as a remembrance of his immense contribution to the development of local cricket in Qatar.
In a thrilling final, Qalco won the toss and elected to bat and amassed 93 Runs in the allotted 15 overs. They had a bad start and lost their six wickets for only 39 runs in six overs. Thereafter, some lusty hitting by Hilmy, who was the top scorer with an unbeaten 26 Runs (3x6) and Chamara, who made 13, helped Qalco to a respectable total.
Sajith and Ghulam took 2 wickets each for Bin Yousef Cargo, while Sudhir, Malik and Abbas claimed one apiece. In Reply, Bin Yousef started slowly and could manage only 20 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in first six overs.  Abbas revived his team’s hopes as he made 33, which included three sixes and a boundary. However, Bin Yousef failed to reach the target. For Qalco, Jonty took two wickets while Ruwan, Ifzal and Hilmy picked up a wicket each.
