The Japanese embassy in Qatar has said it is now accepting applications for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Mext) Scholarship 2017.

The application process is open until June 19 for Qatari nationals, who wish to study at universities in Japan.

Mext offers two types of scholarships - one for undergraduate and the other for research studies.

Eligible candidates for the undergraduate scholarship must be a Qatari national born between April 2, 1995 and April 1, 2000, and must have completed a 12-year regular course of school education. The study period in Japan will be for five years, from April 2017 to March 2022.

For medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine, the term of the scholarship is seven years or a six-year course in pharmacy, including a one-year preparatory course of the Japanese language for all majors.

For research studies, eligible candidates must be Qatari nationals born on or after April 2, 1982. They must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher and choose the same field that they studied at the university, or a related field.

The study period will be for two years commencing in April 2017 or one-and-a-half years to start in October 2017, including a six-month preparatory course of the Japanese language.
